Start at Heart Coffee<\/strong> on Burnside — their espresso is what people mean when they say “Portland coffee.” Sit at the bar; the baristas can talk about extraction if you want them to. Twenty-five minutes if you’re unhurried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Walk south to SE Belmont and pick up Bakeshop<\/strong> — small queue on Saturday, worth it for the pain au chocolat. Eat it on the patio facing the bookshop across the street. (Mother Foucault’s — closed Saturday morning, alas, but worth noting for an afternoon trip.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Continue south on Cesar Chavez to the King Farmer’s Market at NE Wygant (Sundays in summer, smaller than the Portland Farmer’s Market, less crowded, better for the actual produce shopping rather than the experience of being at a farmer’s market). The strawberries in late June here are the best in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Back across the Willamette via the Tilikum Crossing — the car-free bridge with the streetcar tracks. The walk across is about 12 minutes and the view of downtown from the middle of the river is worth it.
